Although the weather was not great, we still had a great relaxing and cosey weekend camping on the Ophir River near Sofala, NSW. We camped in our usual campsite, the same spot where we spent 5 days camping over Easter. There has been a lot of rain recently and so the river had a lot more water in it. We had the pleasure of listening to the water running over the rocks all weekend, very soothing sound except when you're busting to go to the loo.
Talking about our loo (just a big bottom-sized bucket with a lid) in our new shower tent. A funny thing happened one evening when after a couple of wines, I was busting to go to the loo - unfortunately I half fell over while trying to sit on the bucket and ended up pushing the tent over and me going with it.
Luckily I hadn't done too much before then so only got a bit of the floor wet. Had a bit of cleaning up to do afterwards though. James of course thought it was very amusing. It was very convenient having a fresh supply of water just a few feet away. It made cleaning up very easy.
The first night after going to bed, it rained for the rest of the night but stopped by the time we got up in the morning. We then had a warm hearty breakfast and cleaned up before the rain came back. Fortunately, it only rained lightly on and off for the rest of the day. It was very pleasant sitting all rugged up reading a book under our gazebo watching the rain pitter patter down.
Around about 4pm it started getting a bit cool so we decided to light the fire. The first night we had the fire out in the open, but as it was raining, we put an awning up off the gazebo and rebuilt the fireplace with the rocks. We had brought firewood with us plus there was plenty of dry timber and kindling around the camp, that we had stored away from the rain.
We had a very warm and cosey afternoon and evening reading and playing cards in front of an open fire. Of course, the bottle of port after dinner also helped to warm our insides. The funny part was that it was colder during the day than it was at night.
Sleeping on our new camp beds was just heaven and Bacci didn't think it was too bad either. He slept in the tent with us and the other two dogs slept in the car. We don't let Bacci sleep in the car anymore after he scratched the tinting on the windows that last time. He starts the night out on his bed and then migrates to my bed sometime after I go to sleep.
Another camping trip bites the dust. Can't wait until the next one!
Cheers,
Marieanne
